Who is Dr. Kimberly Reeds?

I was born and raised in Oklahoma, and have two of my degrees (Bachelor’s in Animal Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) from Oklahoma State University. I believe that my blood runs the correct shade of orange (sorry Dr. Holland), and I love anything OSU/Cowboy/Cowgirl related. Football is my favorite sport, and of all the athletes that I love, Brandon Weeden and Mike Gundy will always be my favorites.

After graduating from vet school, I worked at a small animal practice in Frisco, Texas. I love the area, especially the shopping! My husband and I then moved to West Lafayette, Indiana, where I completed a Radiation Therapy Internship at Purdue University. One year later, we were on the move again to Manhattan, Kansas. I completed my Oncology residency and received my Masters of Science in Clinical Science from Kansas State University. We were then lucky enough to return to Oklahoma, and our families, and that is where we have been ever since.

I met my husband, Pat, as a sophomore in high school, and we married after my freshman year of college. That was almost 20 years ago, which is hard to believe. We recently expanded our family by adding a daughter two and a half years ago, and then a son six months ago. We are currently back in our home town, and love living so close to our families. Our furry family currently consists of three cats. Tyson is the gray one. She is our old lady crotchety cat, and if you’ve ever lived with a bottle kitten, you know what I mean. She is named after Mike Tyson as she tried to take a bite out of my husband’s ear when she was a kitten. Lieutenant Dan (or Danny), the tabby, is our tripod cat. I adopted him as a kitten because I have a soft spot for amputees as I work with many of them. His leg was broken beyond repair, so the veterinarian who was caring for him had to amputate it. Gideon, the orange and white one, is the newest member of the family. He was a stray that was hanging around the house that I brought inside during Lent a couple of years ago. I was reading the bible and the name Gideon stuck. He and Danny get along so well that it’s hard to believe that they didn’t grow up together.

I, of course, love working with both dogs and cats, and refer to myself as a crazy cat lady often (or one cat short of crazy, whichever is more fitting at the time). I am partial to some particular breeds of dogs including Malamutes, Brittany spaniels, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, and English setters.

As for the rest of my story, I think I’m pretty boring, which makes writing about myself quite difficult. I decided to play a game of 30 questions to help you get to know me a little better.

  1. What is your favorite food? I love most food, but Chick Fil A has a special place in my heart.

  2. What’s the #1 most played song on your MP3 player? Right now “Juicy Wiggle” by Redfoo because that is what my daughter requests to listen to. All. The. Time.

  3. What is one of your favorite quotes? You cannot change the cards you are dealt, just how you play the hand. – Randy Pausch

  4. What’s your favorite indoor/outdoor activity? Sleeping

  5. What chore do you absolutely hate doing? Dishes, which is why my husband and I have an agreement that he does all the dishes and I do all the laundry.

  6. What is your favorite form of exercise? Yoga or weight training

  7. What is your favorite time of day/day of the week/month of the year? Day – early morning when I am awake and everyone else is asleep. Week – Saturday. Month – any that are warm.

  8. What’s your least favorite mode of transportation? I don’t know that I have a least favorite, but I will go with the unicycle.

  9. What sound do you love? The sound of my kids laughing.

  10. If you could witness any event past, present or future, what would it be? I had to think about this one for a long time. I narrowed it down to three choices: The Boston Tea Party, the moon landing, and Reagan’s speech at Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate.

  11. If you had to work on only one project for the next year, what would it be? Making my kids clothes! My daughter is so skinny, it is impossible to find pants that fit. It would also give me the time to learn how to use my cover stitch machine that my wonderful husband bought me.

  12. What is your favorite movie? I like a lot of movies, but the ones that I watch every time they are on include Grease, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Fifth Element, The Legend of Drunken Master, Back to the Future (number one), and Shrek. There are many others, but these are the ones that immediately came to mind.

  13. If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet? Winston Churchill

  14. If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do? Pay off my student loans!

  15. If you were reincarnated as an animal/drink/ice cream flavor, what would it be? I would be a little old lady’s cat.

  16. If you could know the answer to any question, besides “What is the meaning of life?” what would it be? How do we cure cancer?

  17. If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose? Dagny Taggart

  18. Which celebrity do you get mistaken for? When I was in high school, people told me I looked like Nancy Kerrigan.

  19. What do you want to be when you grow up? Successful in both my professional and personal lives.

  20. When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time? Resting, sleeping if possible.

  21. Have you ever had something happen to you that you thought was bad but it turned out to be for the best? Yes, often. One of the most memorable is failing to match for an internship or residency (the match program is how many veterinarians obtain internships and residencies to become specialists). I truly believe that everything happens for a reason and things turn out how they are supposed to.

  22. What do you admire about yourself? My ability to persevere.

  23. What did you do growing up that got you into trouble? I was the perfect child and was never in trouble (right mom?).

  24. When was the last time you had an amazing meal? I made balsamic chicken with zoodles (zucchini noodles) this week in my Instant Pot. The meal, and the pot, are both pretty fantastic.

  25. What do you miss most about being a kid? No responsibility!

  26. Who would win in a fight between Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris? Man, that’s a tough one. I love them both, but I think I have to go with Chuck on this one.

  27. What is your pet peeve in traffic? There are so many to choose from! My biggest one would be slow drivers in the left lane.

  28. What are two things you consider yourself very good at? I can overcome obstacles to achieve a goal and I am a good listener.

  29. What are two things you consider yourself very bad at? I don’t have any patience and sometimes I am too blunt.

  30. What is one interesting fact about you? I love socks, especially crazy socks!
